Our TRAINING EXPERTISE:

I’ve been teaching students at the Paris V René Descartes – Paris Cité Sorbonne University since 1999. I run 1st and 2nd year Business Communication classes on print and web graphic design techniques within the communication process. The course helps students acquire print and digital publishing skills which they can apply to a corporate communication strategy.

I also lecture on the design chain for the Information and Communication Master’s course at the ISCEA business school at the Université Catholique d’Angers (UCO) in Angers, and the Marketing module of the Management Sciences Master’s at Rouen University. For these courses I teach print and web design chain techniques to 4th year students as part of the communication process.

My lecturing work covers 4 main areas: communication strategy – objective, target and delivery method of the message / graphic design (DTP) – the people and tools involved and technical terms used in advertising agencies / production – working with the production artist, printer, binder, their vocabulary and work methods  / e-publishing (web design) – transposing hard documents to the internet, the people and tools involved from the host to the domain name supplier or the webmaster, and referencing techniques.

I’ve worked with 3rd year students at the UCO ISCEA business school since 2003, where I oversee the artistic aspects of the magazines Spécimaine and Reflex, and Répliques, the daily news bulletin published during the Premiers Plans film festival. This course covers 3 main modules: real-time management of graphic design software (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator);team environments in magazine publishing – relations with journalists and editors, photographers and illustrators, advertisers, the media; and working with printers – technical matters, budgets, specifications.

From 2007 to 2010, I ran a course on magazine media and the written press in general, for 3rd year students at the ISCEA in Angers. This course covered 4 topics: characteristics of the magazine industry – title blocks, freelance journalists, contractors, advertising editors, publishing groups; the main categories of magazines – sports, men’s, women’s, news, art and decoration; magazines and their readership – the reading experience brief, audience segments; magazines and advertising.

Since 2012 I’ve been teaching corporate communication in theory and practice to 2nd year students at the UCO ISCEA, covering a range of topics:

  • Communication theories, such as Wiener’s mechanical model / Shanon and Weaver’s theory on message degradation / Lasswell’s 5W / Bateson’s systemic approach.
  • The definition of a communication strategy and the thought process required to implement it, such as addressing a specific issue and determining direction.
  • The outline of a communication plan for rolling out the strategy (targets, message, resources, timescale, budget).
  • The definition of communication and PR techniques: press relations, events, crisis communication, advertising, sponsorships, internal communications, finance communications.
  • Vectors of communication: TV, internet, radio, posters, cinema, written press and non-media: trade fairs, events, sponsoring.

I am an accredited trainer with the Chambre de Métiers et de l’Artisanat de Loire-Atlantique. Since 2013 I’ve worked with people setting up or taking over small businesses, guiding and advising them on communications issues. Our training course Advertising: where to start and who to target helps them analyse their situation and set marketing goals. It offers advice on choosing the right media and marketing tools, how to draw up an action plan and advertising budget, and finding good service providers. It helps entrepreneurs to understand the importance of relevant marketing, establish a communication strategy which fits their needs, and implement the communications plan produced as a result (actions, means and techniques). (See details of communication training).
